Founded in 1987, Microplásticos is a Portuguese industrial company specialising in the production of high-precision plastic components with demanding dimensional and technical requirements.

With more than 38 years of experience, the company has developed a global presence and works with some of the world’s leading manufacturers, particularly in the Mobility and Building Technologies sectors.

Microplásticos employs more than 500 people and produces approximately 150 million components every year. Its industrial footprint includes two manufacturing units in Figueira da Foz, Portugal, and a third unit in Gliwice, Poland.

The business challenge

Managing an international manufacturing operation of this scale requires close coordination between finance, production, purchasing, inventory, sales, logistics and distribution.

As Microplásticos expanded its operations, it became increasingly important to maintain consistent processes and reliable information across different industrial locations.

The company also needed to manage the legal and fiscal requirements of its Polish operation without fragmenting its information across multiple disconnected systems.

Microplásticos therefore required an ERP platform capable of supporting complex manufacturing processes, connecting its main operational areas and providing greater visibility across its Portuguese and Polish operations.

The Sage X3 solution

Microplásticos selected Xplor to implement Sage X3 as a central business management platform for its international operations.

The project included:

• Sage X3 Finance, supporting financial management, control and visibility;
• Sage X3 Manufacturing, supporting production and industrial processes;
• Sage X3 Distribution, connecting purchasing, inventory, sales and distribution activities;
• Polish legislation, supporting the local legal and fiscal requirements of the Gliwice operation.

The implementation was designed to bring financial, industrial and logistical information together within a common ERP environment.

By connecting these areas, Sage X3 supports more consistent processes, improved access to operational information and closer coordination between teams, departments and industrial locations.

Supporting operations across Portugal and Poland

Sage X3 provides Microplásticos with a scalable platform capable of supporting the complexity of its manufacturing environment and international footprint.

The solution brings together information from different areas of the organisation, helping Microplásticos maintain a more integrated view of its operations and reduce the fragmentation created by disconnected processes and systems.

The implementation of the Polish legislation package also enables the company to manage local legal and fiscal requirements within its wider Sage X3 environment, while maintaining alignment with the group’s management processes.
